Message OK, the other day I decided to replace my power steering pump. It was a relatively simple job, but with me, something always seems to be added to make a problem worse than it seems. So I replaced the pump, add fluid, rotate steering wheel several times, lock to lock, and fluid dumps out. In fact, lots of fluid dumps out. I replace, turn wheel, lock to lock, and I loose fluide everytime the wheel approaches both extremes.
Here's my thinking, the hose from the resevior to the pump is not letting enough fluid in as is coming back through the return line causing over flow. Once the car is off, and overflow occurs, fluid level reads low. I decided, I don't have time to work on it anymore than 1 day, so I take it to a place. This was a brand new pump, and now they are telling me its shot. Car had less than 30 minutes running time and less than 20 miles total in the time the pump had been replaced with me taking it to the shop. My questions is, Does this make sense? If fluid is coming back to the resevoir, then can the pump really be bad? I've had steering issues going on now for a while (greater than 1 year) and both the pump and the rack have been replaced. The high pressure hose has not been replaced, but does not appear to be leaking. Any help is greatly apreciated, as I am considering trading the car in, or selling it outright (not my only problem with the car right now).
